Premium white Asus 1005PE gets tested

I already wrote my review of the 1005PE, the new premium 10 inch Seashell netbook from Asus with PineTrail inside and up to 14 hours battery life. You can read more about it here.

Now, Peter from Netbooked.net got his hands on one of these devices too, the premium version dressed in white. And by premium i mean the best equipped version available for this mini laptop, with N450 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard-drive, Windows 7 Starter OS, Wi-fi N + Bluetooth plus the 6 Cell battery. But, unlike the version I’ve seen before, this one comes with a textured matte lid, thus is better in terms of grip and scratch resistance. However, the rest of the body remains the same, and so does that glossy display.

In fact, Peter seemed to like and hate the same things i did about the 1005PE. Design, battery life (9+ hours in his tests), keyboard, software pack, noise, all were on the pluses side, while the glossy screen and case were on the cons. Also, he noticed that you can only upgrade RAM memory easily on the device, but at least the battery is swappable and very easy to change with another one. As for performances, there’s no 1080p video playing, but we already knew that about N450 powered devices (like the 1008P-KR i tested a while ago).

All in all, it’s pretty obvious that the 1005PE is one of the best choices when looking for a 10 inch netbook. Not to mention that if offers excellent value for the money (costs around $365 right now on Amazon, with a small discount – available only in black and blue), benefits from excellent reviews from buyers and is currently the best sold in its class in the US.
