Samsung N220 reviewed – elegant and all-around good

Richard at netbooknews.it got his hands on the latest Samsung N220 , the most elegant of the Sammy netbooks announced at CES 2010 in the 10 inch class. And he just posted a pretty thorough review on his site, too bad it’s in Italian (link towards it is bellow).

Anyway, the Samsung N220 impresses with its looks and build quality, everything being chosen and put together with extra-care for details. The overall shape, the lid, the keyboad and touch-pad, all raise the bar quite high for the competition. And you can see that from the pictures below. Too bad for that glossy exterior though.

On the inside, there’s a very nice matte display, a feature too few other netbooks offer these days. Hardware is pretty standard, with N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard-drive, and overall the device is snappy, although there are quite lots of crappy preinstalled programs you will never need, so you’d better get rid of them.

In terms of battery, Samsung equipped the n220 with a 6 Cell 4400 mAh capable of only around 7 hours, and while good, is still behind what other netbooks from Asus, Acer or Toshiba provide. A bigger 5600 mAh battery would have been better.

Samsung N220 is definitelly one of the best looking netbooks on the market

For more details and pictures, i’d advice you to read the complete review on Richard’s site. (translated).

Anyway, Samsung managed to put together a nice netbook with the N220. While it excels in terms of aspect and offers better display and keyboard than others, has its lacks when speaking about battery life or software configuration. In US this device sells as Samsung N210 for around $380, which is similar to the best Asus or Toshiba netbooks in the 10 inch class. Choosing one over the others would definitely be a touch choice…

    CANADIANS BEWARE!!!!!!!!
The Samsung site (ca&us)both show the N220 as having a large right shift key. Also, online sellers show this feature. I ordered one from MemoryExpress and it came with the teeny shift key no one is happy with. MemoryExpress refuse to help me out, and Samsung.ca refuse to even reply to my email. (Which was polite and civilized.) Dennis Moore
