The iPad Keyboard Dock – the only accessory missing the debut

As you know, the new Apple iPad is already available for preorder since March 12th . And with some success indeed, tens of thousands of devices being pre-ordered from the online store in the first day.

The Wi-Fi equipped versions will start shipping for April 3rd and also at that time we we’ll be able to get some of the accessories Apple is planning on delivering for their gadget the Docking station, the special case, the USB power cable or the Dock VGA adapter. But there’s one that’s going to be late: the keyboard docking station. And it’s premeditated, of course.

At the moment, with touch tablets so young, many raise the question of how comfortable will it be for us to use such a device that has no actual keyboard. It’s made for online surfing and multimedia consumption, but a big part of our online experience requires to input different kinds of texts (comments, messages, posts, emails, chating session, etc). In fact, the iPad relies on us not considering a physical keyboard a must. That’s why they aren’t offering one from the start. It will be available later, as many will probably want one and would pay for it (will cost $69, so pretty expensive), but not in the early days of the iPad.

So a pretty smart move from Apple. I must say that i can’t wait to play with one of these devices live and see how “magic” that interface it is. Though, from my early experience with the iPhone or the iPod Touch, on-screen keyboard is crappy. People bought those gadgets anyway, but they didn’t rely that much on this feature as the iPad does.

So i’m just curios to see the first reactions from people using the iPad. I’m just curios to see if this strategy (i’m convinced they offer the Keyboard docking station later on purpose) will work.
