Viliv N5 mini-laptop launched at CES 2010
The folks at Viliv prepared us another surprise in addition to the S10 Blade netbook: an ultra-compact laptop called the Viliv N5. It’s in fact a device very similar to Sony’s Vaio P series, with some very appealing looks (as you can see in the picture) and competent hardware.
From what we know now, the N5 will come with:
- Intel Atom Z520 processor (1,33 Ghz)
- 1 GB of RAM
- 32 GB SSD storage + microSD
- 4.8″ touch screen with 1024 x 600 px resolution (not convertible though)
- top notch connectivity, with Wi-FI, Bluetooth, WiMax and 3G HSPA/EVDO and GPS
- QWERTY keyboard
- 1.3 MPx Camera
- Windows 7 Starter OS
- up to 5 hours battery life
- only weighs 0.88 lbs (399g)

Compact Viliv N5 mini laptop - quite a gadget
From the looks of this specs, Viliv really put together quite a gadget with their N5. Hardware is a lot more potent than most of the other similar devices on the market can offer (is in fact similar to what Asus had on their 11.6 inch EEE PC 1101HA netbook last year), connectivity is amazing and it can run Windows 7. However, a bigger display and better battery life would have been nice.
Still, i for one am not a fan of such compact mini-netbooks, as i find them too small for everyday use. But i do believe they could be useful to those traveling a lot, being so light and portable. So, if Viliv launches the N5 with a proper price (remember that the Vaio P costs $1000+), it might become popular in certain circles.
But for now there’s no news on prices or the date this device will be ready to hit the stores. Stay tuned on this site for more updates.
